Summary of the Debbie Carolan Tournament:

The third annual Debbie Carolan Memorial tournament for underage girls was held on Saturday 27th April in ALSAA. This year the tournament was held for the U12 age group and teams from Firhouse, Kilcock, Killester, KUBS, Malahide and Sutton joined Swords in the competition. The morning saw some very close group games with six of the games being decided by a basket or less.

Following the group games the top half played for the cup with the remaining team competing for the plate. In the cup competition Kilcock won the 3rd/4th place playoff against Sutton (17-12) thanks to 8 points from Cadhla O'Reilly and strong team defence. The plate final was competed for by Swords and KUBS, with Swords eventually winning an exciting game by a single basket. Top scorer for Swords was Olivia Sasse with 5 points, and the winning basket was scored by Emma Onesime in the last 30 seconds.

Before the cup final, a Cheerleading display was put on by the Dublin Thunder Cheer which wowed the audience with impressive formation dance and acrobatic moves.

The Cup Final was competed for by Malahide and Firhouse. The teams had played each other in a group game in the morning with Malahide winning by a point. The first half of the final was very tight also with Malahide leading by a single point at half time. However, Malahide showed greater energy in the second half and eventually won out by 6 points to become Tournament champions for the second time.

Swords would like to thank all the clubs who participated so sportingly to make the tournament a great success. Also, many thanks to all the club members who turned up to help run the tournament, providing sound, refereeing, covering table, general organisation and first aid.
